The Short Story: With day one of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships in the books, VCU Men's Track and Field sits in third place on the leaderboard. This feat can be attributed to two first place finishes and nine qualifying times for the Black and Gold.
One of the Rams' podium finishers was standout junior, Will Schwartz. The Powhatan native completely dominated the field with his first-place performance in the weight throw. Not only was Schwartz's toss of 20.45m a personal best for the junior, but it also broke the meet record by 0.57 meters which was held by VCU alum, Brandon Ruffin. After securing bronze in this event at the 2019 Indoor Championships and sixth in 2018, Schwartz has used his experience and strength to continuously progress in this event.
"Since our last meet, Will has been working on fine tuning his actions and being rhythmically relaxed within the throw," said Throws Coach Ethan Tussing. We planned to come into the meet today and let his competitiveness and natural penchant for excitement flow through this relaxed foundation. It all came together, and we saw the best series of throws ever by a weight thrower in the Atlantic 10."
