RICHMOND, Va.- The Atlantic 10 announced their Postgraduate Scholarship recipients for the 2025-26 academic year. Track & Field jumper Philip Daniel was awarded the scholarship for VCU, marking the second consecutive year that a VCU track athlete represented the program.Â
Each year, the A-10 honors outstanding student-athletes, who excel in academics and athletics, with scholarships to pursue their studies following completion their undergraduate studies. The A-10 has awarded the scholarship to one representative from each member institution since 2015. Over the last five years, the conference has awarded $350,000 to 66 former student-athletes.Â
Daniel has excelled both academically and athletically over his four years at VCU with two A-10 medals, three triple jump victories, and a triple jump program record. He set the program record with a 15.92m jump at the Virginia Challenge in the 2026 outdoor season. This mark is also good for 26th best in Division I and 10th in the NCAA East region.Â
During the Outdoor Championships, Daniel won a silver medal after a second place finish in the triple jump at 15.64m. He also set a personal record in the long jump at 7.35m, good for sixth place. He won gold in the triple jump at the A-10 Indoor Championships with a 15.66m jump, good for a program record at the time.Â
Academically, Daniel has been recognized for his excellence both within the conference and nationally. He is the President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at VCU where the mission is to develop, promote, and enhance the student athlete experience while fostering a culture of collaboration, leadership, engagement, equality, and unity between student-athletes on-campus and in the community.Â
He was named to the 2025 USTFCCCA and 2026 A-10 All-Academic teams thanks to his work in the classroom where he accumulated a 3.54 GPA in Business Management. He becomes the fourth track & field athlete at VCU to be awarded the scholarship, joining Eryn Byrd (2025), Taylor McCormick (2018) and Kiara Porter (2015).Â
With the scholarship, Daniel plans to attend the Center for Sports Leadership (CSL) at VCU where he will pursue a master's degree in Sports Leadership.Â
