AUGUSTIN ADVANCES BEHIND RECORD-SETTING EFFORT

LEXINGTON, Ky. – VCU freshman Presten Augustin (Palm Gardens, Fla.) set a school record and advanced into the quarterfinal round on the opening day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East First Round Wednesday at the UK Track Complex.

Augustin sprinted to the tape in 13.82 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to eclipse Daiqwaun Faircloth's previous school record of 13.84, set in 2023. The effort registered 24th in the 48-man field and will send Augustin into the quarterfinal round Friday at 6:15 p.m. in Lexington. The top 12 runners from that race will receive berths to the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 10-13 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Augustin, who also qualified for the East First Round in the 400-meter hurdles, clocked 52.90 Wednesday on the way to 46th to close out his freshman campaign in that event. A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Augustin captured the Atlantic 10 Conference title in 400 hurdles earlier this month and collected silver in the 110.

In addition to Augustin's efforts, Troy McWilliams (Newport News, Va.) capped his outstanding senior in the hammer throw with a 45th-place finish.
