EMMANUEL WALLER ETCHES NAME INTO VCU RECORD BOOK TO LEAD RAM MEN

The Short Story:  Senior Emmanuel Waller became the first Ram ever to break 51 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 50.91 seconds, one of several good performances by the Ram men in Gainesville.  

SPRINTS
  • Junior Justin Wallace shed nearly two-tenths of a second off of his 100-meter dash time with a new personal best of 10.66.
  • The men's 4x400-meter relay team of junior Lewis Freeman, senior Kacey Pratt, Waller, and senior Noah Hackerson teamed up for a time of 3:12.49, the fifth-best 4x400 in VCU history.
     
HURDLES
  • Waller's school record performance in the 400mh eclipsed the previous VCU best of 51.25, set by Ian Davis in 2021. Waller is now ranked 14th in the NCAA East in the 400mh.
JUMPS
  • Graduate student Lamar Davis placed 10th in the long jump with a best mark of 7.18m
THROWS
  • Senior Jaekob Vollbrecht competed in the Invitational Division of the discus, finishing eighth with a top throw of 53.68m. Vollbrecht also placed sixth in the College Division of the shot put, heaving his implement. 17.19m.

SPRINTS JUMPS
  • Freshman Philip Daniel finished fifth in the triple jump, leaping 14.26m on his best effort of the day. Daniel is third in the Atlantic 10 and the best freshman in the conference in the triple jump.
THROWS
  • Senior Justin Barnett won the discus, throwing the disc 47.59m, a season best in the event. Barnett moves up to sixth in the A-10 in the discus.
  • Senior Coby Cockrell had two podium finishes on the day, winning the shot put with a throw of 14.74m and placing third in the hammer throw with a top mark of 47.97m. Cockrell is now sixth in the A-10 for the shot put.

UP NEXT
 
The VCU track & field team will close out their regular season slate next weekend, traveling to two meets. Some Ram athletes will head down to the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., on Friday-Saturday, April 21-22. Also on April 21-22, another group will head west on I-64 to the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va.
