Final Results
The Short Story: Marcus Acheampong and Philip Daniel set new program records as the Rams posted a 3rd-place performance in the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships.Â
Sprints/Hurdles
- Acheampong set a program-record 7.88s time in the 60m hurdles prelim. He was unable to perform in the finals on Saturday
- Freshman Presten Augustin won bronze in the 60h at 7.96s
- Junior Jude Okafor won gold in the 200m run with a personal-best 21.39s run
- Okafor also took home bronze in the 400m run at 47.50s
- Jayden Hines finished 5th in the 500m run at 1:04.97
- The sprint team took home one gold and two bronze medals overall
Distance
- Redshirt sophomore Thomas Hess finished 6th in the 800m run with a personal record 1:51.38
- Jonathan Hess and Julian Lawson both qualified for the 1000m finals and set personal records at 2:27.18 and 2:30.43, respectively
Relays
- The Rams won gold in the 4x400m relay as Okafor, Thomas Hess, Augustin and Hines combined for a 3:13.65 time
- Augustin led the Rams with a 47.95s time in his leg of the relay
Jumps
- Daniel set a program record in the triple jump at 15.66m, bringing home gold and setting the 44th best mark in Division I this season
- Junior Jaiden Oglesby finished 6th in the high jump at 2.05m
- Freshman Destiny Ese won bronze in the long jump at 7.14m
- Daniel competed in the long jump at 6.90m
- Isaiah-Taji Kargbo-Owens won bronze in the triple jump at 15.49, good for 66th best in Division I
- Ese finished 4th in the triple jump at 15.04m
Throws
- Senior Troy McWilliams dominated the weight throw at 19.83m, nearly a full meter ahead of the silver medalist
- Devon Brooks finished 4th in weight throw at 16.94m
- Diego Turner finished 5th in shot put at 15.41m
- Shinobu Hawk had a 15.01m throw in the shot put
Next Up
The Rams hope to carry momentum into the outdoor season as they begin with a split meet on Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22. Some members will travel to Orlando, Fla. for the UCF Black & Gold Challenge while others remain in Richmond for the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by UR.Â
