RICHMOND, Va. – VCU freshman Rami Samawi has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
 
Samawi, a native of Geneva, Switzerland, earned his first weekly honor from the A-10 following his third-place finish at the Shepherd's Rock Invitational, an individual-only event that ran in conjunction with the Nemacolin Invitational in Nemacolin, Pa. Samawi shot 68-73-71 to finish 4-under in the 30-man field.
 
VCU and Samawi will return to competition Oct. 13-14 when they travel to the Moraine Intercollegiate in Dayton, Ohio.
