VCU GOLF WELCOMES TRANSFERS MCDONALD O’BRIEN, FENOGLIO

RICHMOND, Va. – Transfers Rory McDonald O'Brien (Shrewsbury, England) and Pietro Fenoglio (Buttigliera Alta, Italy) have signed with VCU and will suit up for the Rams in 2024-25, Head Coach Andy Walker announced Wednesday.
 
McDonald O'Brien joins VCU following two successful seasons at Division II powerhouse South Carolina Aiken, which finished the spring No. 10 in Scoreboards' NCAA national rankings.
 
In 2023-24, McDonald O'Brien posted a scoring average of 72.5 across 36 rounds and earned Second Team All-Peach Belt Conference honors, as he helped lead the Pacers to an NCAA Regional berth. A native of Shrewsbury, England, McDonald O'Brien registered three top-10 finishes during his two seasons in Aiken, including a victory at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. McDonald O'Brien averaged 72.9 strokes per 18 across 62 career rounds with the Pacers.
 
Fenoglio will don the Black and Gold after spending his freshman campaign at TCU. The Buttigliera Alta, Italy native started one tournament last season for the Horned Frogs and shot 72-69 at the Pauma Valley Invitational in San Diego, Calif.
 
Prior to college, Fenoglio played for Team Italy at the Toyota Junior World Cup in 2022 and also competed at the European Boys Team Championship in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, he captured the 2019 Italian U16 Championship and picked up medalist honors at the U14 Scottish Championship in 2018.
 
McDonald O'Brien and Fenoglio join a VCU squad coming off an Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, as well as a berth in the NCAA Regionals. The Rams finished the 2023-24 campaign No. 38 in the NCAA's Scoreboard rankings.
