The Short Story: Senior
Jaekob Vollbrecht started outdoor season on a high note, breaking his own VCU school record in the discus with a throw of 56.87 meters (186'-7"), winning the event at the Black & Gold Invitational at UCF.
SPRINTS
- Graduate student Lamar Davis was the fastest Ram in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 10.81 seconds
- Senior Kacey Pratt led the Black and Gold in the 200m with a time of 21.92
- The 4x100 meter relay team of senior Gordon Smith, junior Darius Reed, Davis, and junior Justin Wallace finished sixth overall, getting the baton around in 41.42. VCU is currently ranked 22nd in the NCAA East in the 4x100m, with the top 24 relay teams at the end of the season qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminaries on May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fla.
HURDLES
- Senior Emmanuel Waller impressed in the 400-meter hurdles, placing fourth and crossing the line in 52.48. Waller currently sits fifth in the NCAA East rankings in the 400mH, and the top 48 athletes in each individual event at the end of the season advancing to the NCAA East Preliminaries
JUMPS
- Sophomore David Coles made the podium in the triple jump, finishing third with a best jump of 14.86m (48'-9"). With that mark, Coles is currently eighth in the NCAA East in the triple jump
- Freshman Philip Daniel also performed well in the triple jump, leaping 14.52m (47'-7.75") to place sixth in the meet and ranked 17th in the NCAA East
- Senior Christian DuBois finished ninth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.95m (6'-4.75")
THROWS
- In addition to his record-setting win in the discus, Vollbrecht also finished third in the shot put, heaving his implement 17.17m (56'-4"). He followed that up with a ninth-place showing in the hammer throw, with a best mark of 55.13m (180'-10"). In the NCAA East rankings, Vollbrecht currently sits fifth in the discus and 16th in the shot put
