The Short Story:  Senior Jaekob Vollbrecht (shot put) and sophomore Jaden Luczak (one-mile run) won their events to provide the marquee moments for the Black and Gold as hosts of the Ram Indoor Invitational in Virginia Beach.

SPRINTS
  • Senior Johnathan Mitchell sped his way to a third-place showing in the 300-meter dash, crossing the line in 35.50 seconds
  • Junior Lewis Freeman (1:04.40) and sophomore Kacey Pratt (1:04.48) both had podium finishes of second and third respectively in the 500-meter run
 
HURDLES
  • Senior Daiqwaun Faircloth made the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, finishing sixth in a time of 8.46 seconds
 
DISTANCE
  • Luczak rallied from behind to win the one-mile run in a personal-best time of 4:22.70. After a runner-up finisher from Howard, Ram runners made up the next four spots with senior Noah Peterson, sophomore Nahim Abdallah, junior Kyle Weldon, and freshman Hudson Barth finishing third through sixth in that order
  • Sophomore Kendall Phillips crossed the line second overall in the 800—meter run, completing the distance in 1:58.95
  • Peterson also had a runner-up placing in the 1000-meter run, clocking in at 2:34.82
 
JUMPS
  • Freshman Philip Daniel advanced to the finals of the triple jump and finished fourth overall, leaping an impressive 14.68 meters (48'-2"). That mark puts Daniel atop the Atlantic 10 leader board this season and fifth on VCU's all-time list 
  • Senior DeJon Mayo was the top Ram in the long jump, as his best jump of the meet was 6.33 meters (20'-9.25")
 
THROWS
  • Senior Jaekob Vollbrecht added another chapter to his standout collegiate career with a win in the shot put. Vollbrecht's best throw of the meet went 16.09 meters (52'-9.5"). His senior classmates Coby Cockrell (14.91m/48'-11") and Justin Barnett (14.54m/47'-8.5") were third and fourth in the event
  • Cockrell claimed runner-up honors in the weight throw, as his top throw of the day went 16.34 meters (53'-7")

The VCU track & field team travels to Blacksburg, Va. for the Virginia Tech Invitational, a two-day meet that begins on Friday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m.
