DAVIS AND COLES HEADLINE MEN’S TRACK & FIELD AT VIRGINIA TECH INVITE

The Short Story: Senior Lamar Davis led the way for the Ram men in Blacksburg with his victory in the long jump and personal record in the 60-meter dash while sophomore David Coles doubled up with personal best marks in the triple jump and long jump.
 
SPRINTS
  • Junior Justin Wallace topped the Rams in the 60-meter dash, finishing 12th overall in 6.93 seconds. In addition to Davis's personal record, sophomore Aubrey Bryant also ran a personal best time in 6.99 seconds
  • Senior Kacey Pratt (fifth/34.29) and junior Lewis Freeman (eighth/34.64) both ran their best times ever in the 300-meter dash
 
HURDLES
  • Senior Daiqwaun Faircloth tied his personal best time of 8.16 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, coming home fifth in the final
 
DISTANCE  
JUMPS
  • Davis went 7.39 meters (24'-3") on his winning effort in the long jump, just clear of the runner-up who went 7.31 meters (23'-11.75"). Additionally, Davis now leads the Atlantic 10 and is 23rd nationally in the long jump
  • Coles stood out in the triple jump and long jump, making the finals in both events. He finished fourth in the triple jump with his personal best of 14.93 meters (48'-11.75") and followed that up with another PR and fifth place showing in the long jump at 7.11 meters (23'-4"). Coles's triple jump is the best mark in the Atlantic 10 so far this season
  • Freshman Philip Daniel made the final of the triple jump in ninth place, going 14.35 meters (47'-1") on his best jump of the day.

THROWS
  • Senior Jaekob Vollbrecht advanced to the finals of both the weight throw and the shot put. He was fifth in the weight throw at 18.05 meters (59'-2.75") and sixth in the shot put with a mark of 15.94 meters (52'-3.75")
  • Senior Coby Cockrell also made the finals of the weight throw in sixth place, throwing 17.41 meters (57'-1.5")

The track & field teams takes to the road again on Jan. 19-21 for the Brant Tolsma Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., hosted by Liberty University. The competition begins at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19.
