THE SHORT STORY 

After two first half goals, VCU and Davidson played to a 1-1 double overtime draw in North Carolina in the final week of Atlantic 10 play.

QUICK FACTS

• Davidson scored early, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the match.  
• Senior Susanna Friedrichs (Midlothian, Va.) found the back of the net in the 36^th minute to level 1-1 before the halftime whistle.
• VCU outshot Davidson 21-10 on the night. 
• Sophomore Brecht Haakma (Amsterdam, Netherlands) made seven key saves between the posts. 
• Junior Emma Kershner (Centreville, Va.) led the way offensively with five shots, landing two on frame.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Davidson capitalized early when it surged forward on the opening kickoff to take a 1-0 lead in the first 20 seconds of the match. 
• Junior Karen Lohrmann (Clifton, Va.) unleashed the first VCU shot of the night, but it went just high. 
• In the 14^th minute, Haakma made an impressive soaring stop to keep the Rams within striking distance. 
• The Rams had a great look in the box in the 23^rd minute as Friedrichs nearly got a toe on the ball just in front of goal, but was unable to catch up with the ball. 
• VCU continued its high press and finally found the equalizer in the 36^th minute. After keeping a corner kick alive, Friedrichs got on the end of a loose ball in the box and put it in the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. 
• The Rams came out of the gate blazing in the second frame, earning a corner kick on its opening attack of the half. 
• Haakma continued to be a brick wall throughout the second half, making a massive save in the 64^thminute to keep things tied. 
• The Rams had another great chance in the 68^th minute when sophomore Idelys Vazquez went one-on-one with the Davidson keeper who made the save. 
• The match was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, sending the side's headed to overtime. 
• VCU had a few chances in the overtime periods, including a great look in the 108^th minute when Friedrichs directed a header on frame, but it sailed into the hands of the Wildcats' keeper. 
• After two scoreless overtime periods, each team walked away with a point from the match.

WHAT'S NEXT

VCU's final regular season home match of the season is Sunday, Oct. 27 against Massachusetts. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. with a pregame ceremony to honor seniors scheduled for pregame.
