RAMS DROP HOME OPENER TO WOLFPACK

THE SHORT STORY
VCU women's soccer dropped its opening game in the Athletic Village to NC State, 4-0.
 
PITCH-SIDE
  • The Rams made 10 saves as a team; goalkeeper Cameryn Nunn's eight were a Division I career high
  • Freshman Jayla Walton played her first full 90 minutes
  • Jensyn Lins, Ishpreen Marwah, Cierra Collins and Nunn also logged the full 90
  • Jazmin Jackson and Vivian Vendt led the Rams with a pair of shots apiece
  • Four different Rams logged shots on goal, as freshman duo of Walton and Alexis Cox were joined by Marwah and Jess Gotshall with on-target strikes
  • VCU and NC State were even with nine fouls apiece, all of the Wolfpack's were committed in the second half
  • NC State's Daisy Duda tallied three points and Jade Bordeleau scored her third goal of the season in two games

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Walton owned the Rams' first shot on goal in the sixth minute, answering an early shot on goal from NC State's Duda
  • NC State worked up a two-goal lead in the first half, opening the scoring in the 12th minute and adding its second in the 35th minute
  • The Rams looked to cut the lead with a late first-half goal as they did in the season opener at Elon, but Gotshall's 45th-minute attempt was saved by Amor Leigh Martin Esteban
  • A pair of crafty Wolfpack goals in the second half doubled the visitors' lead, and VCU fell 4-0 in its 2026 home opener
