Mason Minkel opened with a flourish on the way to a top-15 effort to spearhead VCU's seven-place showing this week at the Giles-Spratley Collegiate.
FIRST TEE
- Minkel, a transfer from West Florida, shot 67-69 on Monday and found himself near the top of the leaderboard. Although a final-round 77 took him out of medalist contention, he finished 3-under to earn a share of 14th place in the field, his highest placement as a Ram
- VCU placed seventh overall at 1-over. Charleston (-29) ran away with a 13-stroke win over Florida Gulf Coast (-16). Liberty (-11), Richmond (-9), North Alabama (-6) and Stetson (even) rounded out the top six
- Senior Braden O'Grady carded a final-round 69 and finished 1-over (75-73-69) to take 27th for the Black and Gold, while freshman Carson Looney shot 76-72-70 and tied for 37th
