The short story: Freshman Carson Looney shot a 1-under 71 to remain within striking distance of medalist honors, while VCU battled to stay in contention for a team title Tuesday in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship in Orlando, Fla.
 
FIRST TEE

• Looney, who entered the day atop the leaderboard, made the turn at 1-over, but caught fire early on the back nine Tuesday, carding birdies on No. 10, 11 and 13
• VCU shot 4-over during Tuesday's second round. George Mason fired a combined 1-under effort to leapfrog the Rams atop the leaderboard. The Patriots sit at 3-under heading into Wednesday's final round, while VCU and Richmond are four strokes back in second place at 1-over
• Sophomore Tanner Cadieux rallied back from a 74 on Monday to shoot a 2-under 70 Tuesday for the Black and Gold, vaulting into a tie for 12^th in the process
• Seniors Braden O'Grady and Zach Felts (+4) are currently tied for 26^th for the Rams
