The short story: Junior Tanner Cadieux shot a final-round 71 on the way to a top-20 finish to lead VCU at the season-opening Island Resort Intercollegiate this weekend at Sage Run Golf Club.

• Cadieux, who finished second on the team in score average last year, shot 73-70-71 to earn a share of 20^th on the Par 72, 7,200-yard layout at Sage Run
• Newcomers North Chery, a transfer from DePaul, and Max Morgenstern, a transfer from St. Leo, placed 45^th overall for the Black and Gold
• Michigan (-41) ran away for a 25-stroke win over West Virginia (-16)
