RICHMOND- VCU had three track & field athletes win Atlantic 10 weekly awards, the league announced Wednesday. Philip Daniel won men's Field Performer of the Week, Presten Augustin won men's Rookie of the Week and Melissa Casiraghi won women's Rookie of the Week.
Daniel won Field Performer of the Week after a dominant display in the triple jump at the South Florida Invitational. He set a program record in the event with a 15.73m jump, good for a first place finish. The jump is good for 12th best in the NCAA and best in the A-10. Teammate Isaiah-Taji Kargbo-Owens finished second and held the lead before Daniel broke the record.
The Manassas Park, Va. native has set a triple jump program record three times during the 2026 season as he set indoor triple jump record at 15.60m at the Doc Hale Meet, hosted by Virginia Tech in February. He followed up with a program record 15.66m jump at the A-10 Indoor Championships in a gold medal performance and now holds the overall record.
Augustin wins A-10 Rookie of the Week for the third time in 2026 and the second time in as many weeks. He set a personal record with a 13.87s time in the 110m hurdles prelim at the South Florida Invitational. He placed fourth in the meet and now ranks 44th in Division I and best in the A-10.Â
Amongst freshmen, the Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. native ranks eighth. The 13.87s mark also ranks second in program history, only 0.03 seconds behind Daiqwaun Faircloth who ran a 13.84s time at the 2023 A-10 Outdoor Championships. He becomes the first VCU track & field athlete to win an A-10 weekly award three times in 2026.Â
Casiraghi wins her first A-10 weekly award after a strong showing at the Trojan Relays, hosted by Mount Olive. Casiraghi set a personal record and finished second in the hammer throw thanks to a 59.00m throw. She finished only behind teammate Blanca Pereira who shattered her PR at 61.94m. Casiraghi's throw ranks second best in the A-10 and fifth amongst NCAA freshmen.Â
The Italian native has had a strong debut season in the black & gold as she was named to the A-10 indoor All-Rookie team for shot put and discus throw. She has performed well throughout the outdoor season as she previously won the hammer throw at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational, hosted by George Mason. The three weekly awards is the most VCU has won in an individual week throughout the 2026 season.Â
The Rams are back in action this weekend as they will be split across three meets. Some members of the team travel to Atlanta to the Georgia Tech Invitational while others remain in-state for the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville and the VSU Relays in Petersburg.Â
