Meet: VCU Rams Indoor Invitational
Location: Virginia Beach, Va. (Virginia Beach Sportsplex)
The Short Story: VCU hosted the annual VCU Rams Indoor Invitational at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. The field athletes dominated as eight Rams qualified for the finals in jumps and throws events.
Sprints/Hurdles:
- Junior Jude Okafor set a personal-best and program record 33.81 in the 300m run
- Sophomore Marcus Acheampong set a personal best time in the 60m hurdles at 7.99, placing fourth
- Acheampong (34.25) and Coleman Hallums (34.51) also set personal records in the 300m
Distance:
Jumps:
- Three Rams qualified for the long jump finals
- Junior Isaiah-Taji Kargbo-Owens set a personal record and finished second in the long jump at 7.18m
- Freshman Destiny Ese finished directly behind Kargbo-Owens at 7.07m
- Senior Philip Daniel finished fifth in the long jump at 7.00m
Throws:
- Three VCU athletes qualified for the shot put finals as freshman Tate Foerster finished third at 16.03m
- Troy McWilliams and Devon Brooks were the top two finishers in the weight throw as McWilliams was victorious at 17.83m and Brooks set a personal record at 17.51m
Next Up
VCU travels to Blacksburg, Va. for a two-day event at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Field events begin on Friday, Jan. 16 at 3:30 pm and track events at 4:00 pm.Â
