Braden O'Grady was outstanding in his first event as a Ram, claiming a share of first place at the season-opening Island Resort Intercollegiate at Sage Run Golf Club.
FIRST TEE
- O'Grady, a transfer from Utah Valley, shot 68-73-67 at the 54-hole event to finish a career-best 8-under. A native of Edmonton, Albert, O'Grady fired a 5-under 67 to vault into a tie with UCF's Chase Haygood
- Behind O'Grady, VCU combined to shoot 14-over and placed eighth. Purdue (-18), which reached the NCAA Championship last season, cruised to the team title by 13 strokes. Boise State (-5), St. Mary's (Calif.) (-4), Georgia (-3) and Michigan (+1) rounded out the top five
- Junior Mac McGurn, a transfer from Loyola New Orleans, shot 76-73-72 on the way to a share of 35th place for the Rams
- Senior Caden Scarbrough (+5) followed in 44th place for VCU, while sophomore Liam White and senior Charlie Kennedy tied for 63rd

NOTABLE
- O'Grady becomes the first Ram to claim individual medalist in his honors in his Black and Gold debut since teammate Charlie Kennedy captured the VCU Shootout as a freshman in 2021
- This week's tournament also marked the VCU debuts of new Head Coach Tyler Schmutz, as well as McGurn and Scarbrough
