The short story: VCU captured gold in the 4x400 relay and senior
John Casper scored in both of Sunday's throwing events to lead the Rams to a fifth-place finish at the 2024 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships in Fairfax, Va.

SPRINTS
- VCU's 4x400 quartet of freshman Jaeden Cassell, graduate Joel Bowers, senior Lewis Freeman and freshman Chanan Mathis clocked 3:11.71 to edge runner-up George Mason by .22 seconds. Freeman and Mathis also ran on VCU's title-winning 4x4 relay at the A-10 Indoor Championships in February
- Junior Marcus Wilson raced to a second-place finish in a personal-best time of 14.23 in the 110-meter hurdles
- The Rams' 4x100 relay claimed fourth in a season-best time of 41.47
- Freshman Jude Okafor clocked 48.35 to place sixth in the 400
- Bowers also placed eighth in the 200 in 22.15Â
THROWS
- Casper made his way to the medal stand in the discus. His first attempt of 48.32 meters was good for third place in the event. The York, Pa. native also threw a career-best of 14.93 to take seventh in the shot put. On Saturday, Casper finished fourth in the hammer
- Freshman Shinobu Hawk registered a heave of 43.73 meters to take sixth in the discus
- Including Casper, a trio of Rams scored in the shot put. Hawk equaled his personal-best with a toss of 15.12 meters to take fifth, while classmate Diego Turner (15.00) placed sixthÂ
