The short story: VCU completed its dominant, three-day march to the Atlantic 10 Conference title, while sophomore
Ugo Malcor defeated teammate
Grayson Wood on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to capture individual medalist honors Sunday in Orlando.
Â
FIRST TEE
- VCU (277-285-282) shot a combined 20-under in a convincing, wire-to-wire victory. George Washington (+5) was second, followed by Davidson (+9). The Rams' 25-stroke win was the largest margin of victory in the A-10 Championship since Virginia Tech scored a 36-stroke victory in 1997
- The title is VCU's fifth since joining the A-10 prior to the 2012-13 season, and first since 2019
- Malcor (-9) fired a final-round 67 to force a playoff with Wood. He drained a long birdie putt on the second hole of sudden death to secure the victory. He shot 68-72-67, while Wood, who entered the day with a 1-stroke advantage, carded 71-67-69. It's the first time since 2019 an A-10 school has captured the top two individual spots
- Freshman Veikka Viskari shot 74-73-70 to place seventh for VCU at his first A-10 Championship, while senior Mattias Varjun (69-73-76) placed ninth
- Malcor is the sixth Ram in program history to win an individual conference title, joining Adrian Vagberg (2022), Adam Ball (2015, 2016), Ted Brown (2000, 2002), Donny Lee (1999) and John Rollins (1996)Â
