The short story: VCU freshman Grayson Wood and senior Mattias Varjun led a late push by the Rams at the Badger Invitational.
 
FIRST TEE

• Wood, the reigning Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week, shot 4-under during Tuesday's final round to earn a share of ninth place. He's placed in the top 15 of his first two collegiate tournaments. Wood overcame a 1-over 73 during Sunday's first round by shooting 71 on Monday and a seven-birdie fueled 68 in Tuesday's finale
• Varjun also rallied from a slow Sunday start and ripped off back-to-back rounds of 69 and 70 to place 15^th at 3-under
• VCU contended for the title for much of Tuesday's final round before placing fourth alongside Long Beach State at 10-under. Florida Gulf Coast captured the team crown at 13-under, followed by Illinois State and Middle Tennessee State at 12-under
• Freshman Veikka Viskari shot 68-69 on Sunday and Monday, respectively, and placed 19^th overall for the Black and Gold. Sophomore Ugo Malcor also placed 31^st and junior Tim Chan was 58^th for VCU
