The Short Story: The Black and Gold shined in the jumping events, with senior
Gordon Smith winning the long jump and senior
Mohamad Abdelrahman winning the triple jump in the Patriot Games at George Mason.
HURDLES
- Junior Marcus Wilson made the podium in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing third with a time of 8.83 seconds.
DISTANCE
- Junior Kyle Weldon led the way in the 3000-meter run for the Rams, completing the 15-lap event in 8:44.76 to place 13th. Behind him, seniors Noah Peterson and Sean Daley both ran personal best times of 8:51.93 and 9:35.67, respectively
- Sophomore Jaden Luczak set a new personal best in the 1000-meter run to lead the Rams in that event, crossing the line in 2:33.63 to finish 12th overall
JUMPS
- Smith's winning mark in the long jump was 7.02 meters (23'-0.5"), which places him a tie for fourth in the Atlantic 10 this season
- Abdelrahman leapt 14.33 meters (47'-0.25") in the triple jump to emerge victorious. With that mark, Abdelrahman is sixth on the Atlantic 10 performance list in the triple jump
UP NEXT
VCU track & field will split up the squad next weekend, with some athletes going to the Boston, Mass., area for Harvard's Crimson Elite Meet and Boston University's Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational on Friday, Feb.3 and Saturday, Feb. 4. Other members of the team will stay in Virginia for the Liberty Open on Saturday, Feb. 4 in Lynchburg, Va.
