RICHMOND, Va. – VCU baseball freshman third basemanÂ
Tyler Locklear and junior designated hitterÂ
Liam Hibbits were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State First Team, while Locklear was also honored as the VaSID Rookie of the Year, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Â
With First Team All-American honors from the America Baseball Coaches Association, Second Team recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Baseball America, and Third Team accolades fromÂ
Collegiate Baseball, Locklear is VCU's first consensus All-American since Matt Davis in 2001.
Â
Locklear has also earned Freshman All-American accolades from the NCBWA andÂ
Collegiate Baseball this season.
Â
Earlier this year, Locklear became the first player in the history of the conference to win both Atlantic 10 Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season. The Abingdon, Md., native was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings Atlantic All-Region First Team.
Â
Locklear hit 16 home runs this season, which is a VCU freshman record, the second-most in a single season in program history, and tied for the most in the A-10. He also led the conference in runs (69), RBIs (66), on-base percentage (.515) and walks (46), all marks that rank in the top 10 in VCU history for a single season. Locklear also paced the Rams with a .345 batting average, a .686 slugging percentage, and 133 total bases.
Â
Hibbits, also an ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region selection, provided a powerful complement to Locklear's bat in the heart of the VCU order, ranking second on the team with a .326 batting average, a .450 on-base percentage, 63 hits, and 60 RBIs. The New York native also collected 13 doubles, four homers and 33 walks for 37 runs. Hibbits put together a 13-game RBI streak that extended from the end of the regular season into the postseason.
Â
The Rams earned the A-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by capturing their second A-10 championship and seventh conference tournament title overall. The second-seeded Rams opened the Starkville Regional by beating Campbell 19-4 to extend their program-record winning streak to 22 games.
Â
The Rams finished the year at 38-16, their seventh straight full season with 34 or more wins.Â
