RAMS’ NCAA TOURNAMENT RUN COMES TO A CLOSE

Score: [3] East Carolina 10, [4] VCU 0
Location: Chapel Hill, N.C. (Boshamer Stadium)
Records: VCU 38-25 (20-10 A-10), East Carolina 37-23-1 (17-10 American)

On the heels of its second top-25 victory of the year and first NCAA Tournament win under Head Coach Sean Thompson, VCU baseball's postseason run came to a close against East Carolina on Sunday at Boshamer Stadium. The Rams fell 10-0 in the Chapel Hill Regional elimination game.

LEADING OFF:
  • Michael Petite had VCU's 126th double of the season in the first inning, leaving the Rams with the third-most doubles in program history
  • With a Nick Flores infield single in the sixth inning, the 2026 Rams became the first VCU team since 2010 to have three players with 70+ hits, joining Jacob Lee (79) and Nate Kirkpatrick (73)
  • VCU fell in its first elimination game of the season, going 4-1 in games facing elimination across the A-10 Championship and NCAA Regional
  • Caleb Clover faced the minimum in the eighth inning, closing out VCU's season on the bump
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU fell into a 3-0 hole through the first three innings, leaving five Rams stranded on base while the Pirates plated three in the opening frame
  • Cooper Campbell used a pair of double plays and three strikeouts to keep the Pirates from adding to their lead until the fifth inning
  • East Carolina scored in each of the next three frames to extend its lead to 10-0, which would hold as the final score

VCU concluded its season with a 38-25 record through the NCAA Tournament, including a historic 21-game improvement over a season ago. The Rams picked up an Atlantic 10 Championship, two victories over nationally ranked opponents and an NCAA Regional win over Tennessee en route to the historic turnaround.
