GILBERT, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association has named the VCU Field Hockey coaching staff the 2020 South Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

Kathi Weidman earned the honors after leading VCU to an undefeated regular season and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance. The Rams also won the Atlantic 10 Championship for the first time while also being ranked nationally in the NFHCA poll for the first time since the poll's inception in 1998. VCU also posted the highest GPA in Division I for the second consecutive season.

The Rams went 7-0 during the regular season with a 6-0 mark in A-10 play. VCU sat at No. 1 in the RPI following the end of the regular season and climbed as high as No. 17 in the national rankings. VCU advanced to the NCAA Tournament after beating Saint Joseph's 2-0 in the A-10 Championship.

VCU had eight Rams earn All-Atlantic 10 honors highlighted by
Janne Wetzel being named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year,
Bridget McCormick being named the A-10 Rookie of the Year and Bean being named the A-10 Coach of the Year. Four Rams also earned All-Atlantic 10 First Team Honors.

Bean and May both completed their fourth year on the coaching staff while Weidman completed her third season. VCU shared the honors with North Carolina as the two teams tied in the awards voting.
