- The second quarter was back-and-forth as only one shot attempt was recorded and Richmond held a 1-0 halftime lead
- VCU recorded three shots in the third period but was unable to tie the game
- The Rams evened the score in the 49th minute as Macera converted on a penalty coner
- VCU outshot Richmond 7-0 in the second half but the Spiders forced overtime.
- The Rams outshot Richmond 6-1 in overtime but the Spiders scored the game-winner in the 74th minute off a counter attack as Larripa played a pass through to Valen Luna Paratore who scored a the far post
