The short story: VCU placed three golfers inside the top 10 on the way to its first victory of the season Tuesday at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate in Williamsburg.

FIRST TEE
- Junior Adrian Vagberg fired a second-round 69 on the way to a fifth-place finish. He was 3-over for the 54-hole event. He carded three birdies during a final-round 70 Tuesday to help VCU secure the win
- Senior Sachin Kumar (75-70-71) and freshman newcomer Joe Retford (72-71-73) tied for 10th for the Black and Gold
- The Rams combined to shoot 859 (+19) for the event, which was played at the site of the 2007 NCAA Championships. VCU outpaced rival Old Dominion (+23) by four strokes. Host William & Mary (+31), George Washington (+32) and Richmond (+32) rounded out the top five
- Senior Kristian Tannum Donaldson (77-73-71) also placed 25th for VCU

INSIDE THE SCORECARD
- The win was VCU's first tournament victory since it claimed the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational in 2019 and the 22nd under Head Coach Matt Ball
- VCU was the field's top scoring team on par 5 holes (-6). The Rams were also third in pat 3 scoring and second in par 4 scoring
- Kumar and Retford registered two of the tournament's nine eagles
- Vagberg recorded a team-high 11 birdies
