The short story: Sachin Kumar kicked off his senior campaign with a first-round 69 on the way to a third-place finish for VCU over the weekend at Savannah Harbor.
 
FIRST TEE

• VCU shot a combined 2-over in the opening two rounds before cooling off in Sunday's chilly conditions. The Rams combined to shoot 888 (290-288-310) on the way to a seventh-place finish
• Mercer (-3) coasted to the team crown, followed by Western Carolina (+9), Florida A&M (+12), Belmont (+14) and Wright State (+16)
• Kumar overcame an early bogey on the Par 5, No. 4 hole in the opening round and fired four birdies to pave the way for his lowest collegiate round since he carded 69 to open the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Oct. 12, 2018. He followed with rounds of 72 and 73 to finish 2-under on the weekend
• Senior Kristian Tannum Donaldson (74-72-77=223) tied for 28^th for the Rams, followed by graduate transfer Peter Gasperini (74-70-80=224), who placed 31^st in his VCU debut
