SETH CUTLER-VOLTZ RETURNS TO VCU AS PITCHING COACH

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Baseball Head Coach Shawn Stiffler announced the hiring of former Rams standout Seth Cutler-Voltz as an Assistant Coach Friday morning. Cutler-Voltz will serve as VCU's pitching coach.

"Any time we get one of our own to return to Ram Nation, it is a very special day," Stiffler said. "Seth was a tremendous player who has always had a special feel for the game. His passion for this city and love for VCU will translate throughout our team. Seth has been a winner everywhere he has been. Over the last several years, he has established himself as one of the best pitching minds in the country as well as a premier recruiter."

Cutler-Voltz was a workhorse in a four-year career on the mound for VCU, making 73 career appearances, including 47 starts and eight complete games, all top-10 marks in program history. The Richmond, Va., native ranks second all-time at VCU with 338.1 career innings pitched.

In his prolific playing career, Cutler-Voltz posted a 4.31 ERA, won 18 games, and struck out 229 batters. He was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team, and the CAA All-Tournament Team as a sophomore in 2010, a season that saw him register a career-best 3.47 ERA, an 8-4 record, and 67 strikeouts as the Rams won the conference title and made the NCAA Regionals. His 119.1 innings pitched during the 2010 campaign are the third-most in a single season in VCU history.

After graduating with a degree in exercise science in 2012, Cutler-Voltz spent two years on VCU's staff as a volunteer assistant. The Rams put together a 65-46 overall record across those two years, including a successful 2014 season where VCU went 37-20 and surged into the Baseball America Top 25 poll, with the pitching staff posting a 3.86 ERA.

Cutler-Voltz was most recently the pitching coach for Wofford for the past five seasons, helping elevate the Terriers' program. Wofford won its first regular season Southern Conference Championship in school history in 2021, following a 36-21 overall record and a 21-9 mark in league play. Wofford's pitchers totaled 492 strikeouts during the 2021 season, second-most in the SoCon and third-most in school history.

Prior to his time at Wofford, Cutler-Voltz was a member of the coaching staff at UT Martin from 2015-16. The Skyhawks improved significantly during those two years, including a 2016 season where UT Martin won 19 games, the most for the team since 2011. Skyhawk pitchers also struck out a program-record 369 batters in 2016.

Cutler-Voltz joins a VCU team that earned the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by capturing the 2021 A-10 championship, the seventh conference tournament title in program history. The Rams, who also won the A-10 regular season crown, opened the Starkville Regional by beating Campbell 19-4 to extend their program-record winning streak to 22 games.

VCU finished the year at 38-16, its seventh straight full season with 34 or more wins.
