THE SHORT STORYÂ
The Rams put up another double-digit hit performance Tuesday afternoon, but a costly fifth inning was ultimately too much to overcome as VCU fell 8-3 to College of Charleston.Â
LEADING OFFÂ
- Steven Carpenter lead the way offensively with two hits and two walks.Â
- Six rams recorded 10 hits on the afternoon, including four multi-hit performances.Â
- The Rams 10 hits were the most College of Charleston has given up this season.
- Carter Knapek threw two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- College of Charleston took advantage of a leadoff trip to take a 1-0 lead, but Michael Dailey limited the damage, forcing three quick outs to get out of the inning.Â
- The Rams tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third with the help of three hits. Andrew Puglielli started things off with a single through the left side.  Steven Carpenter and Logan Amiss also notched hits in the inning, with Amiss' single to right field driving in the run.Â
- The Cougars retook the lead in the top of the third, taking advantage of another triple for a 2-1 score.Â
- With one swing of the bat, the Rams answered yet again. Tyler Locklear got ahold of one and sent it well past the left field fence for his first career home run.  The long ball tied things up 2-2.Â
- The back-and-forth affair continued when College of Charleston scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-2 lead. The Cougars later extended its lead 8-2 with a run in the bottom of the seventh.Â
- VCUÂ got a run back in the top of the eighth. Paul Witt lead off with an infield single and advanced to third on a couple of ground outs. Hunter Vay then delivered an RBI single through the left side, driving Witt home to cut the lead 8-3.
- The Rams were unable to plate any more runs in the ninth and ultimately fell 8-3.
