- Nathan Eaton would then single to center field, scoring a pair of runs to put the Keydets up 2-0.
- Another walk would load the bases, which led to another single one batter later by Jacob Jaye, scoring another pair of runs putting VMI up 4-0.
- Curtis Bafus would come in and slam the door, holding the Keydets scoreless though the sixth inning.
- Garrett Pearson and Tanner Winters would combine to shut down VMI through the ninth. However, the VCU offense was still held scoreless as the score stood 4-0 going into the bottom of the ninth.
- VCU was able to load the bases and score a run off a Paul Witt sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. But a double play after the fly out ended the game at a 4-1 score.
