The Short Story: It was a tough night for the VCU Rams on the diamond Wednesday evening, as they dropped a midweek matchup to the VMI Keydets by a final score of 4-1. With the loss, the Rams six-game winning streak over the Keydets was snapped. 

LEADING OFF 

• Paul Witt collected his team-leading 24th RBI of the year for VCU.
• Haiden Lamb was 1-of-3 at the plate for VCU and scored the Rams' lone run. He was one of four Rams to record a base hit.
• Both Hogan Brown and Steven Carpenter would grab two hits apiece, with Brown chipping in with a double.
• Daane Berezo added the other VCU hit, finishing the game 1-for-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• Despite some early base runners, VCU was able to pitch around damage, keeping things scoreless through the first three innings.
• VMI would load the bases in the top of the third with two outs. However, a ground out would end the inning, getting the Rams out of trouble and keeping things scoreless.
• Things would finally break in the top of the fourth as Braxton Wilks took the mound for the Rams. After a leadoff groundout, a pair of singles and hit by pitch loaded the bases for VMI for the second straight inning.
• Nathan Eaton would then single to center field, scoring a pair of runs to put the Keydets up 2-0.
• Another walk would load the bases, which led to another single one batter later by Jacob Jaye, scoring another pair of runs putting VMI up 4-0.
• Curtis Bafus would come in and slam the door, holding the Keydets scoreless though the sixth inning.
• Garrett Pearson and Tanner Winters would combine to shut down VMI through the ninth. However, the VCU offense was still held scoreless as the score stood 4-0 going into the bottom of the ninth.
• VCU was able to load the bases and score a run off a Paul Witt sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. But a double play after the fly out ended the game at a 4-1 score.

VCU will return to action on Friday, April 13 as the Rams head to New York to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies for a three-game series. First pitch Friday is slated for 3 p.m.
