- VCU struck first took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute as Bohmke scored a goal.
- The Red Flash tied the game 1-1 in the 27th minute as Brianna Govia scored at the far post.
- The two teams were tied 1-1 at halftime but VCU scored just eight minutes into the second half and took a 2-1 lead as Albright tapped the ball into an open net after a cross from McNamara.
- The Red Flash then scored two unanswered goals less than six minutes later to take a 3-2 lead over the Rams.
- VCU responded with two unanswered goals from McNamara in the 50th minute and the 60th minute to give the Rams a 4-3 lead.
- Saint Francis would force overtime by scoring with less than four minutes remaining to tie the game at 4-4.
- McNamara scored the game-winner on a penalty corner in the 85th minute after Tossone inserted the ball, she stopped it and had a shot from the edge of the arc beat the goalkeeper far post.
