THE BASICS: George Washington used a three-run seventh and a four-run eighth sparking a comeback to knock off the Rams at The Diamond.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• George Washington's Ryan Xeppoleas gave the Colonials a 1-0 edge when he roped an RBI single into right field to plate Bobby Campbell in the first.
• The Rams loaded the bases in the second, after two GW errors in the second with no outs. VCU capitalized, getting RBI from senior Nick Octavi, sophomore Cody Acker and a sacrifice fly RBI off of senior Joey Cujas' bat.
• An Owen Beightol RBI single into right field pulled the Colonials within one in the third, 3-2.
• The Rams countered with a run of their own on an RBI groundout from freshman Matt Davis.
• George Washington continued the back-and-forth trend in the top of the fourth, plating a run on a run with a Joey Bartosic RBI groundout to second base.
• Senior Chris Ayers led off the fifth inning with an infield single to the third base side. The designated hitter advanced from first to third on back-to-back wild pitches. With Ayers on third senior Bill Cullen rocketed a sacrifice fly to center brining Ayers home.
• The Colonials retook the lead in the seventh, 6-5, getting a two-RBI double from Colin Gibbins-Fly to cap a three-run inning.
• GW tacked four more on in the eighth getting RBI from Bartosic, Beightol, Xepoleas and Gibbons-Fly. The four runs gave the Colonials a 10-5 edge, with six outs left for the Rams.
• VCU went on to load the bases in the ninth, but couldn't scratch a run across.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Prior to the contest coach Shawn Stiffler honored the Rams' 11 player senior class. The group as a whole saw 116 wins in the River City as well as the first Top 25 ranking since 2005.
• Junior starter Daniel Concepcion went 6.1 innings allowing four earned runs on nine hits, while striking out one Colonial.
• Runs were scored in each of the game's first four innings, pushing VCU ahead 4-3.
• Four seniors were penciled into the starting lineup on senior day. As a group they went 6-for-18, with three RBI and three runs scored.

• The Rams wrap up their home slate on Tuesday when they welcome ACC foe Maryland to the Diamond, with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m.
