moved into scoring position following a Gonzalez sacrifice
bunt. Van Meter continued with his clutch hitting as he laced
the first pitch he saw over the head of Maryland first baseman Dan
Gentzler and VCU took an early 1-0 lead.

the first two innings, issued back-to-back walks with one out in
the second. Both runners moved into scoring position on a

field and knotted the score at 1-1. The Terrapins looked to
take their first lead of the game as David Poutier hit a groundball
to the left side of the infield. However, the ball took a bad
hop but Van Meter recovered and was able to throw out Brandon
Padula trying to score from second base.
Fujii drew a one-out walk and advanced to second
on a failed pickoff attempt to get things going for the Rams in the
third. He moved over to third base after a wild pitch before
Gonzalez ripped an RBI single into right and VCU regained the lead,

and took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the

home on an RBI single by Rodriguez and Maryland went ahead,
3-2.
A costly VCU error allowed the Terps to add a run
to their lead in the sixth as Lenherr couldn't come up with a
ground ball in right field and Gentzler, who drew a leadoff walk to
start the frame, scored to increase Maryland's lead to 4-2.

eighth after two more VCU errors and a pair of bases loaded walks,
and pulled ahead, 7-2.
