RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Lacrosse Head Coach Nicole Flores has announced the hiring Gillian Smith an assistant lacrosse coach.

Smith joins VCU following her collegiate career at Cincinnati and currently also serves as a captain of the Ireland national lacrosse team. Smith also has recently served as a coach for Yellow Jackets South Lacrosse, a position she has held since 2021.

Smith is a former student-athlete at Cincinnati and Old Dominion, playing 45 games with 14 starts over her four-year career. Smith played nine games last season for the Bearcats scoring one goal. She played in 17 games across two seasons for Cincinnati. She spent her first two seasons at ODU, playing in 28 games with 14 starts.

She was a three-time academic All-Conference selection including an All-Big 12 Spring Academic Team selection in 2026.

Smith is a Richmond, Va. native and graduated from Cincinnati with a degree in political science.
