KOENEKE LIFTS RAMS OVER HAWKS WITH OT GOAL

Score: VCU 16, Saint Joseph's 15 (OT)

The Short Story: VCU's Rachel Koeneke scored the game-winner 57 seconds into the overtime period after recovering a ground ball and firing it past the goalkeeper just outside the crease.

OPENING DRAW:
  • It marked VCU's first road win at Saint Joseph's in its fifth attempt
  • Koeneke had five goals and two assists on an extremely efficient seven shot attempts
  • Kiley Kozak had three goals and two assists on four shot attempts
  • Molly O'Keefe had two goals and one assist
  • The teams were tied 24-24 in shots on goal while Saint Joseph's held a slight 32-30 advantage in total shot attempts. The Hawks did have a 21-12 advantage in draw controls
  • Kate Fuhrman had a team-high four goals for Saint Joseph's
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU trailed Saint Joseph's 5-2 after the first quarter but its offense sparked in the second quarter scoring five unanswered goals in just over three minutes to take a 7-5 lead with 10:15 left before halftime
  • The Rams pushed its lead to 9-6 with 2:30 left in the second quarter following a Kozak goal but the Hawks scored with four seconds left to cut the Rams lead to 9-7 at the break
  • VCU held its lead and a 15-12 advantage after scoring with 9:02 left in regulation but the Hawks fought back, tying the game at 15-15 with 59 seconds remaining
  • Koeneke scored the game-winner after an initial shot by Amelia Eilbacher was saved and she collected the ball and scored from close range
