Braden O'Grady recorded led the way as defending champion VCU thrust itself into the hunt in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship Tuesday in Orlando, Fla.
FIRST TEE
- McGurn and O'Grady each shot a 1-under 71 Tuesday and sit tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard. Carson Baez of Richmond shot a first-round 68 to take an early lead atop the leaderboard
- Led by its junior duo, VCU combined to shoot 290 (+2) during Tuesday's opening round. The Rams currently sit fifth amid the tightly packed standings. Davidson (-3) currently owns a 1-stroke lead over Rhode Island (-2), while Dayton (Even), Richmond (+1) and the Rams remain within striking distance
- McGurn recorded a team-high seven birdies on Tuesday, including four in a row (Nos. 11-14) on the back nine
- Junior Jacob Conklin and senior Caden Scarbrough each shot 2-over Tuesday and sit tied for 22nd for the Black and Gold
