Meet: Doc Hale Invitational
Location: Blacksburg, Va. (Rector Field House)
The short story: The Rams had two first place finishes at Virginia Tech this weekend, and a new personal record set at the VMI Winter Classic as they had competitors entered in both events
JUMPS:
- In the elevated triple jump field, senior David Coles earned sixth with a jump of 15.46 meters, just shy of his personal best of 15.54 meters
- In the triple jump, Phillip Daniel earned first place with a distance of 15.23 meters. Daniel's mark is good for the third best in VCU history and a new personal best
- Fellow Ram Isaiah-Taji Kargbo Owens finished second in the triple jump behind Daniel with a mark of 14.83 meters
- Freshman Jeremiah Johnson earned 11th in the high jump with a height of 1.96 meters
THROWS:
- John Casper, owner of the top mark in VCU history in the weight throw, earned first in the same event with a distance of 20.58 meters
- In the shot put, Diego Turner threw 15.79 meters to finish fifth. He also earned ninth in the weight throw, setting a new personal best in the process
HURDLES:
- Freshman Marcus Acheampong continued his stellar season, as he finished third in the 60-meter hurdles. His time of 8.02 in the prelims is the third best in VCU history and is the best mark in the Atlantic 10 this season
SPRINTS:
- In the 60-meter dash prelims, freshman Christian Hallums set a new personal best, finishing in 6.95 seconds
DISTANCE:
- The top finish for the Rams in the 3000-meter race came from Cole Dawson, who earned seventh with a time of 8:45.01
- Thomas Hess set a new personal record in the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:55.93 to earn 13th in the event
VMI Winter Classic
HURDLES:
- Isaiah Brightman set a new personal record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.48 seconds
DISTANCE
- Dawson ran in the VMI Winter Classic Saturday as well, earning third in the mile. Fellow Ram Kendall Phillips finished on his heels to earn a fourth-place finish
SPRINTS:
- The Rams had three runners finish in the top 10 of the 200-meter race, as Hallums earned third, Acheampong fourth, and Jordan Davis sixth
- In the 60-meter dash, Emmanuel Oche earned second-place with a time of 6.85 seconds
- Kiwan Williams ran a 23.413 time in the 400-meter race to earn fifth in the event
NEXT UP
The Rams next travel to the Darius Dixon Invitational at Liberty University on Friday to Saturday, Feb. 14-15. This is the last regular season meet before they head to the A-10 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
