VCU STUDENT-ATHLETES POST RECORD-BREAKING ACADEMIC MARKS

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU student-athletes combined to post a 3.5 grade-point-average to highlight a record-breaking fall semester for the Rams. The mark extended VCU Athletics' department record to 20 consecutive semesters where it recorded a combined GPA of 3.0 or better.

"I am forever in awe of our student-athletes due to their accomplishments in the classroom. I deeply appreciate the tireless work of our Student-Athlete Support Services team and the leadership of Dr. Sofia Hiort-Wright. We talk every day about success requires investment and our SASS team invests in the education of our Rams with passion and unparalleled commitment," said VCU Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin.

For the first time in school history, every VCU program recorded a team GPA of 3.0 or better, including women's tennis, which led the way with a 3.95. Field hockey (3.78), men's tennis (3.70) and baseball (3.40) were not far behind.

"I am beyond proud of our student-athletes and their dedication, discipline and perseverance. The academic success they constantly achieve is very inspiring and admirable. The record-breaking Fall 2024 semester is an exceptional accomplishment that they all should be so proud of," said Hiort-Wright, VCU's deputy director of athletics and senior women's administrator.

A total of 81 out of more than 300 student-athletes notched a 4.0 GPA during the fall semester, while 271 (86 percent) received Athletic Director's Honor Roll (3.0 GPA or better), while 170 (54 percent) earned Dean's List distinction.
