Meet: Virginia Tech Invitational

Location: Blacksburg, Va. (Rector Fieldhouse)

The short story: The men's team recorded seven different top ten performances across all events on Friday and Saturday at the Virginia Tech Invitational, as the Rams continue to settle into the indoor season. 

SPRINTS:

• Freshman Marcus Acheampong finished third in the 300-meter with a new personal best time of 34.88

• Fellow freshman Jayden Hines finished in fourth place on Acheampong's heels with this time of 34.89

HURDLES:

• Acheampong finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles finals after setting a personal best time of 8.14 in the prelims

DISTANCE:

• Redshirt freshman Thomas Hess (2:30.50) finished 13th in the 1000-meter race, setting a new personal record along the way 

JUMPS:

• Freshman Nathaniel Mitchell (1.95m) placed sixth in the high jump to set a new personal best

• The Rams turned in two top ten performances in the triple jump, as David Coles (14.90m) and Philip Daniel (14.69m) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. 

THROWS:

• Diego Turner (15.53m) finished sixth of 16 contestants in the shot put Saturday afternoon. His mark of 15.53m is a new personal best for the sophomore
   

Christopher Newport Invitational
The Rams also had select athletes travel to Newport News, Va. Friday, Jan. 17 to compete in the Christopher Newport Invitational 

HURDLES:

• Sophomore Isaiah Brightman finished first in both the prelims and the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, recording a time of 8.48 in the finals. The mark of 8.48 tied his personal best for the 60 hurdles

JUMPS:

• Graduate senior Donald Adams notched a 6.78m in the long jump, earning first place for the event

The Rams next travel to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted by Liberty University on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-25.
