RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Vice President and Director of Athletics
Ed McLaughlin has been appointed to the NCAA's Division I Council, as well as to the Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee.

McLaughlin, who has overseen the VCU Athletics Department since 2012, will serve a four-year term through 2028. The NCAA Division I Council consists of high-level administrators across the country and is responsible for the day-to-day decision-making for Division I. Every conference is represented on the council.

"I look forward to working with these critical leadership groups over the next four years," McLaughlin said. "The Division I Council will shape the future of college athletics as we move through the most turbulent times in our history. I feel very fortunate to have a role to play as I represent the elite basketball-centric school voice in creating a new Division I model."Â

As part of the Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee, McLaughlin will help ensure appropriate oversight of the sport, both regular and postseason, and will work to enhance the student-athlete experience. Additionally, McLaughlin and the committee are responsible for reviewing the qualifications and/or selection procedures for the NCAA Tournament, as well as other issues related to the administration of the championship.

McLaughlin will also serve as vice president for Division I-AAA schools within the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

NACDA's 2017 Division I-AAA Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year, McLaughlin previously served as the chairman of the Atlantic 10 Council of Athletic Directors from 2016-18, and was chairman of the A-10 Finance Committee from 2014-16. McLaughlin recently completed a four-year term on the NCAA Nominating Committee.
