Meet: Virginia Open

The short story: Junior John Casper enjoyed a big day in the throwing events to lead VCU Saturday at the Virginia Open.
 
THROWS

• Casper captured the discus with a heave of 50.45 meters on his final throw of event. His day wasn't done there, as the York, Pa. also placed second in the hammer throw, with a personal-best toss of 57.90 meters
• The Rams swept the top three spots in the men's discus. After Casper, freshman Shinobu Hawk finished in second, throwing 46.39, while classmate Devon Brooks claimed bronze with a mark of 46.39
• Freshman Diego Turner threw 15.09 meters and Hawk registered a heave of 14.05 in the shot put to place second and third, respectively
