The Short Story: Freshman
Kayelyn Tate broke through with a meet record performance of 7.41 seconds in the 60-meter dash, one of 17 personal records set by the Ram women at the Brant Tolsma Invitational at Liberty University.
SPRINTS
- Tate won the 60-meter dash in a meet record time of 7.41, beating the previous meet record of 7.50 set in 2021 by Crystal Johnson of Towson. Tate was also only .01 of a second off the VCU school record set last week by junior Lauryn Taylor. Taylor and senior Lauryn Freeman also made the 60m final, placing third and fifth, respectively
- Tate was also the top Ram in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 24.84 to finish third overall.
- Junior Karah Moore (5th/57.22) and freshman Jordyn Evans (7th/57.61) both ran their PRs in the 400-meter dash
HURDLES
- Junior Jailah Channer was the top Ram in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.13. Junior Taylor James and sophomore Sophie Heinold both ran personal bests, running and jumping their way to times of 9.35 and 9.44, respectively
DISTANCE
- Freshmen Ava Miller and Jayanna Carroll both enjoyed double-PR weekends, running their best times ever in both the 1000-meter run and one-mile run. Miller ran the 1000m in 3:05.41 to place seventh and completed the mile in 5:16.49 to come home 16th. Carroll ran the 1000m in 3:09.67 and the mile in 5:23.24
- Freshman Naomi Clarke had a podium finish in the 800-meter run, claiming third place with a PR time of 2:18.24
- Sophomore Cassidy Guyton ran her best indoor time in the 5000-meter run, traversing the distance in 18:25.06
JUMPS
- Sophomore Nayome Shipp tied for second place in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.62 meters (5'-3.75")
- Senior Raquel Hawkins finished fifth in the triple jump, landing in the sand pit for a mark of 11.65m (38'-2.75"). Sophomore Megan Bozarth set a new personal record with her best jump of 11.23m (36'-10.25")
THROWS
- Sophomore Eryn Byrd racked up top-10 finishes in both the shot put (4th/14.04m) and the weight throw (6th/16.85m)
- Redshirt freshman Like Matalatala set personal records in both the shot put (12.42m) and weight throw (13.37m)
- Sophomore Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir was the best Ram in the weight throw, placing fifth with a best throw of 16.90m
