Lynchburg, Va. VCU Men's Tennis graduate student Charles Bertimon won the men's open singles title without dropping a set to lead a successful week at the 2022 Dufour Invitational for the Rams.

VCU was also represented by senior Maxence Bertimon, graduate student Rayane Stable, sophomore Gray Voelzke, freshman Etienne Marty, and freshman Romain Gales.

Maxence met his brother Charles after winning the round of 32 with a straight set victory over Shayan Najam (Washington, D.C.). After overcoming Jordan Chrysostom (Virginia Tech) in the round of 16, Bertimon took down fellow VCU teammate Stable in the quarterfinals before losing to Charles in the semifinals. 

Gales won in straight sets all the way up to the semifinals. He overcame Frank Thompson (Virginia Tech) in the round of 32, Christiaan Worst (Liberty) in the round of 16, and Josh Wilson (Liberty) in the quarterfinals.

Stable had a good push to the quarterfinals, winning in straight sets all the way up to his final match. Stable took down James Delgado (High Point, N.C.) in the round of 32 and Alberto Orso (Virginia Tech) in the round of 16.

After having a bye in the round of 64, Marty had a straight set victory over Thando Longwe-Smit (Liberty), before a loss in the round of 16.

Men's Open Doubles

After having a bye in the round of 16, the Bertimon brothers defeated Matthew Harper and Orso from Virginia tech, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0.. The Bertimon pair fell in the semifinal match.

The combo of Stable and Voelzke dominated in the round of 16 with a straight set victory over  Longwe-Smit and Omar El Kadi of Liberty. A second straight set victory came in the quarterfinals for the pair when they defeated Ryan Fishback and Chrysostom of Virginia Tech. The pair ended their day in the semifinal round.
