NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU Women's Soccer graduate defender Amber DiOrio and redshirt junior midfielder Anna Bagley were named to the Preseason All-Atlantic 10 Team, the conference announced Thursday morning.
 
The Rams, who won the 2021 A-10 Regular Season Championship, were also picked to finish fourth in a poll of the league's 15 head coaches.
 
DiOrio started every match and played a team-high 1,543 minutes last season, starring as a center back on a VCU back line that recorded the best goals-against average (0.81) in the A-10. The Gainesville, Va., native earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 and VaSID Second Team All-State honors in 2021. DiOrio, entering her fifth season in Black and Gold, has played in 57 career matches, including 34 starts, and has a goal and an assist in her career.
 
Bagley also started all 17 matches for VCU last season, playing 1,492 minutes as an attacking midfielder. For the second straight season, Bagley recorded two goals and two assists for six total points. During the spring 2021 season, the Charlton, Mass., native was a Second Team All-Atlantic 10, Second Team All-Region, and Second Team All-State selection. In 37 matches across three seasons, Bagley has four career goals and four career assists for 12 total points.
 
With 14 first-place votes, Saint Louis was picked to repeat as champions with 224 points in the preseason poll. Dayton (197), Loyola Chicago (189), VCU (180), and Massachusetts (170) rounded out the top five.
 
VCU went 13-4, including a 9-1 mark in conference play, on its way to capturing the 2021 A-10 regular season crown for the first time, while Lindsey Martin was named A-10 Coach of the Year.
 
The Rams open their 18-match 2022 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 18 at James Madison. VCU plays 10 home matches at Sports Backers Stadium this season, the first of which is an Aug. 25 clash with UNCW.
