RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Basketball Head Coach
Beth O'Boyle was selected to participate in the WBCA and The West Project's "Coach Conversations: Retaining Black Student-Athletes Through Connection." The panel was set to take place on zoom Thursday, June 23.Â
Â
O'Boyle was part of a head coaches panel alongside UCLA's Cori Close, Furman's Jackie Carson, Arizona State's Natasha Adair, Texas A&M's Joni Taylor and the NCAA's Lydia Bell. The panel was put together to have an honest discussion on the unique experiences and challenges Black student-athletes face and how head coaches can be better equipped to provide a positive experience.
Â
The panel initially began with the WBCA at this year's NCAA Final Four in Minneapolis, Minn.
The WEST Project is about "Walking Every Season Together." The program's mission is to encourage and empower coaches and administrators by walking every season together. To impact student athletes and teams positively. To enhance our ability to have important, hard conversations and increase our respect and understanding of all people. To strongly engage with significant issues in our world in a way that brings people together and moves us all forward.
