The short story:Â VCU led by as many as 16 points in the third quarter but a 17-0 run by Duquesne gave the Dukes a 36-35 lead. The Rams trailed just 53-52 with 2:33 remaining but the Dukes closed the game on a 7-0 run.

OPENING TIP:
- Makennah White led VCU with 14 points and six rebounds on 4-of-6 shooting
- Katarina Kneževic had nine points and eight rebounds
- Lucy Ghaifan scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds, going 4-of-8 from the floor. Lucia Sotelo added eight points and five rebounds
- VCU shot just 25 percent from the floor and 3-point range in the second half while Duquesne shot 48 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from deep

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- VCU trailed Duquesne 4-0 early but used a 15-2 run to take a 15-6 lead after a Ghaifan layup in the first quarter. The Rams led 15-10 heading into the second
- The Rams used suffocating defense in the second quarter and pushed their lead to 27-13, allowing just one field goal in the first 8:02 of the quarter. VCU took a 30-19 lead into halftime
- Ghaifan's layup made it 35-19 with 5:39 remaining but the Dukes used a 17-0 run to shift momentum and retake the lead at 36-35 with 1:27 left in the quarter.
- Duquesne pushed its lead to 53-45 with 4:51 left but a 7-0 run sparked by a Cyriah Griffin jumper got the Rams back within 53-52 with 2:33 remaining
- VCU was unable to overcome a late 7-0 run by Duquesne to close the game
