Lindsey Martin announced an 18-match schedule for 2022 Wednesday afternoon.

The Rams will play 10 home matches at Sports Backers Stadium, and face four opponents that played in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, including three that won NCAA Tournament matches.

VCU opens the season at James Madison on Thursday, Aug. 18 before a trip to Raleigh, N.C., on Sunday, Aug. 21 to face NC State, who reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2021.

The Rams then return to Richmond for a five-game home stand, hosting UNCW (Aug. 25), UNC Greensboro (Aug. 28), William & Mary (Sept. 1), East Carolina (Sept. 4), and Pitt (Sept. 8). UNCW and Pitt each won 11 games in 2021.

VCU's final non-conference test is a Sept. 11 match at Virginia, who earned a No. 1 seed in the 2021 NCAA Tourney, advancing to the Sweet 16 before falling to national finalist BYU.

The Atlantic 10 schedule features home matches against Massachusetts (Sept. 15), St. Bonaventure (Sept. 22), La Salle (Sept. 25), Loyola Chicago (Oct. 13), and George Mason (Oct. 23), and road matches at Rhode Island (Sept. 18), Richmond (Oct. 2), Dayton (Oct. 9), Fordham (Oct. 16), and Saint Louis (Oct. 20).

Loyola Chicago is in its first year competing in the A-10 after winning the Missouri Valley Conference title last season. Saint Louis, the reigning A-10 champions, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after a win over Ole Miss.

The Rams also play preseason exhibitions against two NCAA Tournament teams: North Carolina (Aug. 7) and Old Dominion (Aug. 11).

VCU captured the A-10 regular season championship for the first time in 2021, compiling a 13-4 overall record and a 9-1 mark in conference play, while Martin was named A-10 Coach of the Year.
