The short story: VCU junior Mattias Varjun shot a final-round 70 on the way to a top-10 finish at this week's Purdue Fall Invitational, while junior Jayce Hargrove earned a top-25 finish for the Rams.
 
FIRST TEE

• Varjun shot 74-74-70 and used Tuesday's final round to vault 17 spots up the leaderboard to ninth place
• Hargrove carded rounds of 74-73-75 on the way to a 22^nd-place effort for the Black and Gold
• VCU placed eighth overall in a field that included seven top-75 squads. The Rams shot a combined 296 Tuesday, which was tied for third-best in the field. Seventh-ranked Tennessee (-8) claimed the team title, while LSU (+4), host Purdue (+11), Little Rock (+17) and Nebraska (+19) rounded out the top five
• The Rams also received a final-round 72 from freshman Ugo Malcor, who tied for 29^th
