RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Men's Tennis has made three additions to its 2021-22 roster, head coach
Anthony Rossi announced on Monday.
The Rams signed Arizona State sophomore transfer Tom LeBlanc in addition to recruits Gray Voelzke and Joaquim Almeida.
LeBlanc, a native of La Valette-du-Var, France, has totaled a 5-3 singles record and a 2-3 doubles mark in two seasons with the Sun Devils.
Prior to his collegiate career, LeBlanc won three singles ITF junior titles, two G5 titles, a G3 singles title and was the district and state champion in France from the ages 9-14.
"I chose VCU because of Anthony (Rossi)… and because of the team culture," he said.
Almeida comes to Richmond from Brazil. He was the vice champion of the G3 Bahia juniors cup, J2 Neuquen doubles and J4 Santiago doubles.
"I chose VCU because, it has everything I have ever dreamed," he said. "The university is very big and the city is amazing. I love the tennis program, the coaches and the facilities. Everything is perfect and this will be a unique opportunity. VCU is everything that I dreamed, the college, dorms, coaches, city, location, campus and people on the team, everything is amazing."
Voelzke, a local product, grew up and played his prep career in Henrico, Va. He has reached as high as No. 2 in the USTA's Mid-Atlantic 18 Singles Rankings and top 50 in the 18 doubles rankings. On the court, he claimed a 16s L2 doubles championship and a doubles championship at 10k UTR.
"I chose VCU because of their tennis achievements in winning the A10 championship and how the program has risen each year in ranking with Coach Rossi and Nagel," he said. "The coaches and players have proven that they are looking to constantly get better with hard work and that is something I wanted to be a part of."
All three signees will be eligible to compete in the 2021 fall season.
